Materials

What we trust, and why.

Every F&S Silver piece starts with the same short list of materials. Here is what they are, where they come from, and how to care for them.

The metals

Silver, vermeil, patina.

925 Sterling Silver

92.5% pure silver, 7.5% copper

Every piece is forged from solid 925 sterling silver, the international standard for fine silverware. Hallmarked, certified, and stamped in our atelier.

22k Gold Vermeil

22k gold over sterling silver, 2.5 micron minimum

For warmth without the weight of solid gold. Our vermeil is thicker than industry standard and applied by electroplating only after final polish, so it never chips at the edges.

Oxidized Silver

Hand-applied patina, sealed by lacquer

A controlled chemical patina that darkens the silver without dulling it. Each oxidation is done by hand and sealed under a clear lacquer to keep the color from fading unevenly.

The stones

Hand-selected, by eye.

Every stone traceable to its source

Natural Turquoise

Anatolia & Iran

Untreated cabochons, hand-selected for color depth and the characteristic gold-brown matrix.

Mediterranean Coral

Responsibly farmed, Mediterranean

Sustainably harvested red coral, worked into cabochons and freeform slices.

Baroque Pearls

Freshwater, Asia

Hand-picked for shape and luster. We prize irregularity, no two baroque pearls are alike.

Amethyst & Citrine

Brazil & Uruguay

Hand-cut cabochons and facets in rich, saturated color. Bezel set into silver or gold vermeil.

Tourmaline

Afghanistan, Brazil, Mozambique

Green, pink, and watermelon tourmaline in faceted and cabochon cuts.

Lapis Lazuli

Afghanistan

Deep blue with pyrite flecks. The color that gave Renaissance painters their skies.

Rainbow Moonstone

India & Sri Lanka

Cabochons cut to maximize the blue flash, the feature we care about most.

Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire

Mozambique, Zambia, Sri Lanka

The classic three. Sourced from long-standing suppliers and selected in person.

Certified & hallmarked

Every piece is stamped with our F&S 925 Istanbul hallmark and comes with a written certificate of authenticity.

Ethically sourced

We work with suppliers we've known since the atelier opened in 1992. Every stone we set is natural, hand-selected, and drawn from Anatolia, we don't buy stones whose origin we can't trace.

Lifetime care

All F&S Silver pieces come with complimentary lifetime servicing, polishing, re-setting, re-sizing, at our Istanbul atelier.

Care guide

How to keep it forever.

Wear it

Silver improves with skin contact. Wearing a piece regularly slows tarnish and keeps the finish even. Heirlooms are meant to be worn, not stored.

Keep it dry

Remove pieces before swimming, showering, or working with chemicals. Salt water and chlorine are silver's worst enemies.

Clean gently

Wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth after wearing. For a deeper clean, warm water, a drop of mild soap, and a soft brush around the stones.

Store it right

Keep each piece in its own soft pouch, away from light and humidity. Our packaging is designed as storage, reuse it.
